Lakhs of Muslim pilgrims and a large number of people from the capital and adjacent areas attended the Friday’s Jumma prayers at Tongi Biswa Ijtema ground, on the outskirts of the capital.
The second phase of ‘Bishwa Ijtema’, the second largest congregation of Muslims after the hajj, began with the religious sermons after Fajr prayers on Friday morning.
The congregation, organised by Tablig Jamaat, will end on Sunday through the concluding prayers `Akheri Munajat`.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also attended the Jumma prayers.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages on the eve of the Ijtema.
They have greeted all the devotees and wished success of the event.
