Some 359,261 posts in different ministries and government offices have fallen vacant, Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam told parliament on Tuesday.
“Letters have been sent to the ministries and departments concerned to fill up the posts quickly,” he said while replying to a scripted question from treasury-bench lawmaker Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh.
At present, 48,246 posts of class I54, 294 posts of class II, 182,737 posts of class III and 73,984 posts of class IV have remained vacant, Syed Ashraf said while replying to another query from lawmaker Golam Rabbani.
Syed Ashraf further said the Public Service Commission recruits staff at vacant posts of ninth grade (class I) and 10th-11th grade (class II) in different ministries or departments and corporations as per the requirements.
But the ministries, departments or corporations concerned appoint staff in 13th to 20th grade (class III and fourth IV) as per their respective recruitment rules, he said.
