Dhaka University students stage demo for revoking 7 colleges’ affiliation

A group of Dhaka University (DU) students on Monday staged demonstrations on the campus boycotting classes demanding cancellation of seven colleges' affiliation with the university.

Over 100 students took position at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla at 8am. They started chanting slogans- 'Cancel affiliation of seven colleges to protect DU honour' and 'Our only demand is to revoke affiliation of seven colleges with DU'.

The students blocked the Shahbagh-Nilkhet road for around one hour from 10am to realise their demand and later moved towards the DU Vice-chancellor's office to talk to him over the issue.

However, the VC was not office at that time.

"Students of these seven colleges are using our university logo as their academic activities are controlled from our university. If this situation continues, our academic activities will be hampered," said Mashiur Rahman Sadik, convener of the movement.

Contacted, DU VC Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman told UNB, "The DU campus is only for university students, not for affiliated colleges' students. The affiliated college's students can't use the DU campus. Their all activities will be run in their own campuses."

The seven affiliated colleges are; Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
