State-owned Maddhapara Granite Mining Company Ltd (MGMCL) will sign a Tk 47 crore deal with a US firm on Sunday to conduct a feasibility study to guide the efforts for increasing the annual stone production by over 1.5 million tonnes.
“We will sign a deal with John T Boyd Company for conducting the feasibility study for granite slab preparation and boosting stone production,” MGMCL Managing Director Engineer Md Mahmud Khan told the daily sun on Saturday.
The US firm will conduct the feasibility study on an area of 6.5 square kilometers in the mining area over a period of 18 months. The study will be conducted at 400-meter depth to determine the feasibility of slab preparation in the mine.
“Positive outcome from the study will help boost production in Maddhapara,” Mahmud Khan said.
MGMCL currently supplies around 75 percent of stone production for construction of highways, airport runways and railroad ballast, Khan said.
State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid and senior official concerned of the energy and mineral resources division will attend the deal singing function.
