The number of total voters in the country at present is 10,40,51,883, according to the updated draft voter lists published by the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday.
The total number of voter has gone up by 2,29,64,880 since 2008, EC's Acting Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed said at a press briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban to reveal the draft of new voter lists.
According to the voter lists updated in 2008, the figure was 8,10,87,003.
Anyone having any objection in this regard to the draft voter lists will have to contact the EC by January 17 as the lists are displayed at important places in districts, upazilas and union parishads, Ahmed said.
Among the new voters, the information of 33,32,593 were collected in 2017 while the information of 9,62,296 in 2016, he said, adding names of 17,48,934 dead voters were deleted from the lists.
Among the total voters, 5,24,62,865 are male and 5,15,89,018 are female, Ahmed said.
The final voter lists will be published on January 31, he added.
