Suspected drug peddler killed in Feni 'gunfight'

An alleged drug peddler has been killed in a 'gunfight' between his associates and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Dharmapur village in Sadar upazila of Feni.

Deceased Anwar Hossain Raju, 25, was accused in 10 cases, including rape, drug, arms and robbery, filed with Feni Model Police Station.

Rab-7 Feni camp in-charge squadron leader Safayat Jamil said tipped-off, a team of Rab went to the area to thwart drug smuggling around 4:30 am on Monday.

Sensing presence of Rab members, drug smugglers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left Raju injured.

The injured was taken to Feni Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The elite force, however, recovered two foreign-made pistols, two one-shutter guns, one pistol, seven rounds of bullets and five shells of cartridges from the spot.
