Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd cruised over Chittagong Abahani Ltd by 3–1 goals in their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital on Sunday.
The BPL match, sponsored by Saif Power Battery Ltd, started at 6:45 pm.
The boys in yellow clearly dominated the proceedings since the start of the match as they started the match on top of Chittagong Abahani in the league table and cemented their spot after the win.
Jamal came into the match as the favourites and portrayed why that is.
Mahbub Hossain Roxy’s boys started the match in the most spirited manner possible; it was carnage from the word ‘go’.
Jamal attacking spearhead Raphael Onwrebe kept on breaking into Chittagong Abahani D-box several times in the first two minutes. It was evident that was something was going to give away, ultimately Chittagong defence surrendered to the brilliance of the beast named Raphael.
On the 11th minute, Raphael took a run for the kill and proper assist by Jamal midfield he placed his and side’s first goal of the match.
The phrase ‘Morning shows the day’ came true for Sheikh Jamal as Jamal attacking midfielders continued to pound the Chittagong Abahani line-up.
The next ten minutes of the match was determined the result of the match as Raphael went to penetrate into Chittagong Abahani line numerous times. The consistently frequent attacks made sure the momentum was with Sheikh Jamal.
It was Solomon King this time with a brilliant goal that would humble the best of the business as he pounded Chittagong bars on the 31st minute with a magnificent assist by Momadou Bah.
Sheikh Jamal’s Nigerian striker was so brilliant yesterday that he made his star colleague Mamadou Bah seem redundant.
The first half ended with a score line of 2-0 goals for Sheikh Jamal.
The second half saw Chittagong Abahani trying to stage a comeback as their leading defender Ndkaku Alison scored a stunning goal on the 61st minute courtesy of a brilliant assist by Abahani’s local by Mohammad Zahid Hasan.
But Sheikh Jamal made sure to not let Abahani back into the game as Jamal’s Bengal tiger Mohammad Javed Khan extended their lead on the 78th minute with a scintillating goal.
26 year old Nigerian defender was in rhythm throughout the match as he countered some potentially deadly Sheikh Jamal attacks and later went on to score for his team.
Earlier on the day, defending champions Dhaka Abahani Limited came close to retain the Saif Power Battery BPL title beating mediocre Brothers Union Club by 2-0 goals in the opening 20th round match at the same venue.
Nasir Choedhury put traditional sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani ahead in the 32nd minute while striker Rubel Miah confirmed the Abahani's victory scoring one more goal in the 60th minute.
In Monday’s fixture, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited will play against Arambagh Krira Sangha in the first match at 4:30 pm while Farashganj Sporting Club will lock horns with Muktijoddha Sangsad Sporting Club in the second encounter at 6:45 pm.
Both the matches will be played at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
