30 hurt as roof of under-construction silo collapses in Jessore

Roof of an under-construction government food silo has been collapsed in Chougachha upazila in Jessore on Sunday afternoon left at least 30 workers injured.

 

Mohammad Shamim, officer-in-charge of Chougachha Police Station, said the roof came down crashing along with the beams around 5pm soon on completion of the casting of the roof of the upazila food silo.

 

Locals rescued the workers and took them to the Upazila Health Complex where 15 were discharged after giving them first aid.

 

Worker leader Mohammad Ali said the around 9000 sqf roof collapsed while 39 workers were taking preparations to leave the spot on completion of the casting.

 

After the incident, site engineer of constructor firm Dhali Construction Tariqul Islam and assistant engineer of consultancy firm Abdul Majid fled the scene.
