2017 was not a great year for Bollywood. One after another, we lost many actors and directors. Here is a look back at who the Bollywood celebrities lost in 2017:
Bollywood actor, writer and filmmaker Neeraj Vora died at a Mumbai hospital in the wee hours of December 14. After he suffered a heart attack followed by a stroke in 2016, Neeraj Vora went into a coma. He was 54.
Shashi Kapoor death
Legendary actor Shashi Kapoor breathed his last on December 4. He was the youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor and brother of actors Shammi Kapoor and Raj Kapoor. During his career in the Hindi film industry, he had worked in over 150 films and had won the National Award four times in his career. He was also honoured with the Padma Bhusan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Rani Mukerji's father and filmmaker Ram Mukherjee passed away on October 22, 2017. He was 84. He was best known for directing films like Hum Hindustani and the Dilip Kumar-Vyjayanthimala starrer Leader.
Lekh Tandon, best known for films like Amrapali, Agar Tum Na Hote and Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye, also helmed television serial Dil Dariya in 1988 through which he introduced Shah Rukh Khan. As the news of his death broke on October 15, many fans and celebrities took to Twitter to share their grief on the sudden demise. He was 88.
Renowned musician and brother of popular singers and performers, Mika Singh and Daler Mehndi also passed away on October 9 this year.
Veteran director Kundan Shah, best known for the dark comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, passed away on October 7.
Veteran theatre and film personality Tom Alter too passed away this year on September 30. He was 67. The actor was suffering from squamous cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer).
Sitaram Panchal, who acted in films like Bandit Queen, Slumdog Millionaire, Peepli Live and The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Jolly LLB 2, Paan Singh Tomar, passed away on August 10 after a three-year long battle with kidney and lung cancer. He was 54.
Indra Kumar, who was known for playing supporting roles in a number of Salman Khan movies, passed away on July 28. The actor died of a heart attack. He was 44.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! Hum Saath-Saath Hain and Deewana Mastana are among the blockbuster Bollywood films in the actor's kitty. Reema Lagoo was a distinguished name in Marathi cinema as well. She died of cardiac arrest on May 18.
Vinod Khanna, the original heartthrob of Hindi films, passed away on April 27. He was reportedly battling bladder cancer for years. The actor was 70.
Veteran actor Om Puri passed away on January 6 after a massive heart attack. The actor was 66. He was known for films like Aakrosh, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and Chachi 420 among many others. The actor also appeared on the small screen also and became part of iconic shows like Sadgati and Tamas. He was also a Padma Shri awardee.
