National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Nazibur Rahman has been appointed Principal Secretary to Prime Minister.
The 58-year-old Nazibur succeeds Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, whose tenure will end on December 31.
The public administration ministry issued a circular in this regard on Sunday.
Kamal, appointed principal secretary on November 27 last year, was set to retire in December the same year. But he accepted the offer of a one-year contractual appointment.
According to the state’s warrant of precedence, the status of a principal secretary is equal to a cabinet secretary, the highest ranking civil servant in the land. However, according to serial, the principal secretary’s name comes afterwards.
Nojibur Rahman was born on December 31 in 1960 in Sunamganj.
A 1982 batch Bangladesh Civil Services officer, he worked at the forest and environment ministry and the planning ministry’s statistics and informatics division prior to his job as the NBR chief.
He also served as director general of the Department of Environment.
He is set to go on PRL (post retirement leave) from December 30 in 2019.
