The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on Wednesday urged the government to expedite the trial process of blogger killings for setting example of quick justice.
Visiting CPJ Asia Program Coordinator Steven Butler made the call at a meeting with Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu at the latter’s office in the city, said a press release.
Inu said Bangladesh maintains zero tolerance to terrorism. “Terrorism and fanaticism are threats to both the government and the media,” he said.
Noting that the mass media is thriving in the country, he said the government of Sheikh Hasina focuses on free flow of information with the expansion of media.
The minister briefed Steven Butler, who is here on a weeklong visit, about the ongoing trials of blogger killings to bring perpetrators to justice.
Ekushey Television’s chief executive Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul was also present at the meeting.
