A dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by district unit of Jubo League protesting the killing of its Jurachhari unit leader is going on in the district on Thursday, UNB reports.
Due to the shutdown, all business establishments and educational institutions remained shut down since the morning while public transports, including water vessels, were not plying.
Leaders and activists of Jubo League were seen picketing at places of the district town and brought out processions in support of hartal since morning.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the upazila to remain law and order situation under control.
On Tuesday night, Arbindu Chakma, general secretary of Jurachhari upazila unit of Jubo League, the youth wing of ruling Awami League, was shot to death by unidentified miscreants at Mitingachhari Bazar.
Meanwhile, miscreants swooped on Jharna Chakma, vice president of district Mohila Awami League and her family members in Biharpur area of the town early Wednesday, said district Jubo League president and municipal mayor Akbar Hossian Chowdhury.
