Riders ready to rattle Titans

As the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament has crossed half way of this season, its third venue Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in port city Chittagong will serve as the host for this week.

In today’s action packed encounters, Rangpur Riders will play against Khulna Titans at 2:00pm while Sylhet Sixers will meet hosts Chittagong Vikings in the second match at 7:00pm.

Today’s first match will see two senior campaigners of Bangladesh National Cricket Team—Mashrafe Mortaza and Mahmudullah Riyad to lead their teams to consolidate their place in the points table.

Mashrafe-led Rangpur Riders can enter the top three in the chart if they can replicate their winning performance from the previous two matches.

Mashrafe proved that why he is considered as the best skipper in the cash-rich T20 league of the country when he guided his team to outplay Sylhet Sixers and Dhaka Dynamites on November 20 and 21.

Rangpur have faced tough times in the opening days of the series when they lost three consecutive matches despite of promising start. But with the arrival of Caribbean power-hitter Chris Gayle, New Land’s Brendon McCullum, Sri Lankan Thisara Perera’s bowling in death overs and most importantly, the captaincy by national ODI team skipper Mashrafe, Rangpur didn’t have to look back.

They shrug off their dismal records and made a tremendous comeback to keep their title chase alive.

But a point to be noticed in the Rangpur’s camp that local batsmen are struggling to manage good scores. Former national team opener Shahriar Nafees has failed to prove his ability with the willow this season.

They have a strong combination but the team effort will be precisely needed as the contest will get tougher from now on.

Mahmudullah’s Khulna can taste the flavour of top if they can win against Rangpur today. The team have the capability to defeat any contenders in their day.

Nasir Hossain-led Sylhet, the ‘dark horse’ of the competition will face an easier outfit Chittagong, who have managed only single win from 6 matches they played. Sylhet will try to reform their strategies to keep their position in the top fours. But as the host team, Chittagong can surely turn the table in their side today to bounce back in the league.
