Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said the next national election will be held as per the constitution.
"The country is being run as per the constitution. In 2014, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tackled the opposition's ill attempts to take state power by creating a constitutional vacuum in the name of foiling election," he said.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Skills for achieving prosperous Bangladesh and SDGs" at Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in the city on Sunday, said a press release.
Amu said, compared to other countries, Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success in different socio-economic indicators under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"Once, there was the shortage of food for seven crore people, but now there is no shortage of food in the country," he added.
IDEB organised the discussion marking its 47th anniversary and Public Engineering Day-2017. IDEB President Engineer AKM Hamid presided over the discussion.
Among others, general secretary of the Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal and former industries minister Dilip Barua and Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General and former minister Sheikh Sahidul Islam and Bangladesh Communist Party President Mujahidul Islam Selim were present at the discussion.
