Abhijit Chattopadhyay, assistant high commissioner of India in Rajshahi, visited at Thakurbari village of Rangpur district on Monday morning where villagers attacked the Hindu-dominated village and vandalised and torched houses of the Hindus, UNB reports.
He went to the village around 10.12 am and stayed there for several minutes, said police.
However, he did not make any comments.
Meanwhile, police arrested a total of 53 people from Gangachhara and Kotwali areas till Monday morning.
Earlier on Friday, a man was killed and 20 others, including four policemen, were injured in a clash at Thakurbari village in the upazila over a reported Facebook post by Titu Chandra.
Over the issue, around 8,000 people from nearby villages marched towards Thakurbari village, a Hindu-dominated village and vandalised and torched 8-10 houses of the Hindus.
Police on Saturday morning filed a case with Gangachhara Police Station against more than 2,000 people, including 25-30 named ones.
