Convener of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) and freedom fighter AFM Mahbubul Haque passed away at a hospital in Canada on Friday. He was 69.
He breathed his last around 10:15am (BD time) at Ottawa Civic Hospital while undergoing treatment.
Haque was admitted to the hospital on September 26 after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
The BSD leader is survived by wife, a daughter and a host of followers, relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death, said a press release.
Born at Mohammadpur village under Chatkhil upazila, Noakhali on December 25, 1948, Haque joined student politics in his school life. He participated in the country's Liberation War in 1971.
Meanwhile, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death.
In separate condolence messages, they prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
