9th grader murdered by 10th graders for ransom, 3 held

The body of a class IX student, who was allegedly killed by the students of class X of a high school in Homna upazila of Comilla, has been recovered from the school's septic tank on Thursday, five days after he went missing.

The deceased was identified as Jahid Hasan, 14, a student of Dulalpur Chandramukhi High School and son of Aktaruzzaman, UNB reports.

Rasul Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Homna Police Station, said after receiving a call from someone, Jahid came out from his house on Friday and went missing.

Victim's father filed a general diary with Home Police Station the following day.

In the meantime, victim's uncle received a text message and a phone call, demanding Tk 50,000 as ransom.

Tracking the phone call, police detained three 10th grader students - Emdadul Haque, Jihadul Islam, Khairul Alam - of the same school on Wednesday morning.

During interrogation, they confessed their guilt that Jahid was strangled to death at a house in Dulalpur Bazaar and dumped his body at the septic tank of their school, the OC said.

Later, police recovered the body around 2:00 am.

The body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
