Bourses edge up in early trading

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed modest gain in early trade on Wednesday, as the enthusiastic investors were active mainly on the bank stocks.


After first one hour of trading, the key index of the country's major bourse gained 6.33 point up while the Selective Category Index of the port city bourse rose 14.58 point.


DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 6.33 points or 0.10 percent to 6,136 points at 11:32 am.


The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also gained 0.24 points or 0.11 percent to stand at 2,210.97 points.


The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 1.23 points or 0.09 percent to reach at 1,329.93 points.


Turnover stands at Tk 2043.09 million on the DSE at 11:36 am, riding on Uttara Bank and City Bank.


Uttara Bank Limited dominated the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 154.98 million changing hands till then, followed by City Bank, EXIM Bank, Oimax Electrode and BBS Cables.


Of the issues traded till then, 145 advanced, 80 declined and 64 issues remained unchanged.


However, the port city bourse, the CSE, saw positive trend till then with its Selective Category Index - CSCX - advancing 14.58 points to stand at 11,516 also at 11:29 am.


Of the issues traded till then, 69 gained, 34 declined and 24 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 60.50 million.
