Photo exhibition, Chinese film festival begins at Nat’l Museum

A weeklong Chinese film festival and photo exhibition began at Bangladesh National Museum on Tuesday on the occasion of the ‘Year of Friendship and Year of Exchanges’.

Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu inaugurated the festival and photo exhibition at Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the museum as the chief guest in the morning.

The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, the China Radio International and the Chinese community living Dhaka have organised the event in order to make stronger the cultural bonding between Bangladesh and China.

In his address, Inu said, “Bangladesh and China have chalked up elaborate programmes to mark the Bangladesh-China friendship year.”

After visiting the photo exhibition, he said the photos show life style, culture and social condition, economic and other conditions of both the countries.

A photo carries three importance-- it can recollect the lost moment, news can tell lie, but a photo never tells a lie and finally a photo can show the right history of something, he added.

The minister further said the existing relations between the two countries have developed in various arenas during the present government. We hope this development will continue in future.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director of China International Radio South Broadcasting Centre Sun Ching Lee said, “The long-lasing relations between Bangladesh and China are strengthening day by day.”

The China Radio International has been broadcasting in South Asia since 1969. It will open its branch office in Dhaka soon, he added.

The inaugural programme of the photo exhibition ended with a cultural function.

Director General of Bangladesh Betar Narayan Chandra Shil, Secretary of Bangladesh National Museum, Shawkat Nabi, lawmaker Kazi Rosy, Director of CRI Bangla Department Yu Guangyue and ATM Zia Ahsan of Bangladesh Betar, among others, were present on the occasion.

Earlier, a three-day pre-event photo exhibition was held from Thursday to Saturday, depicting lovely moments through Chinese and Bangladeshis friends’ cameras.

Bangladesh and China have dedicated 2017 as the ‘Year of Friendship and Exchanges’ as they are now heading towards a ‘promising future’.

During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Dhaka last year, Bangladesh and China agreed to strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges and take forward the traditional friendship between the two countries.
