3 child workers among 6 killed in Sylhet stone quarry

At least six people, including three child workers, were killed and one still remained missing as a portion of hill collapsed on them while they were extracting stones from a hillock in union No 1 of Kanaighat upazila on Tuesday morning.



Two siblings among the deceased were identified as - Nahid, 13, a student of Kanaighat Darul Ulum Madrasah and Shakil, 11, a student of Haris Chowdhury Academy, sons of Almas Uddin of Kandala village in Kaliprosad union. The rest child victim is Kandal Hafijia Madrassah student Maruf Ahmad, 11, son of Masbir Ali of Kandala village in Kaliprosad union.


Another victim is Sundar Ali, a local man.


Abdul Ahad, officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station, said that the incident happened in 'Banglatila' owned by Forest Department around 9:00 am, leaving three dead on the spot and two other workers missing.

A team of police and local Fire Service was trying to rescue the missing workers, the OC added.
