Police recovered bullet-hit body of a listed local top terrorist from Bater Pukurpar area of Balaishpur in Laxmipur district town early Thursday, UNB reports.
The deceased Masum Billah alias Laden Masun, son of Maulana Hafiz Ullah of Abirnagar area of Sadar upazila and an accused in 28 cases, including murder and robbery, was on the run for long, said Md Mukter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station.
Following his return to Laxmipur from Dhaka around 3:00 am, a gunfight ensued between two terrorist groups - Shahadat Bahini and Masum Bahini - in Balaishpur area that left Masum dead on the spot, the OC added.
Being informed about the gunfight, a team of police conducted a drive in the area early in the morning and found Masum Billah's bullet-hit body. Later, the body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police also recovered two two-barrel pistols, two Light Guns, 11 rounds of bullets and 30 cocktails from the spot, the police official added.
However, family members alleged that Masum was accused in so many cases as he was involved in politics of Juba Dal, a front organisation of BNP.
"On Sunday, the law enforcers detained him from Gulistan area in Dhaka and he was killed later in police firing, deceased's wife claimed.
