Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday accused BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia of telling a court blatant lies about Awami League and Sheikh Hasina.
“Her (Khaleda’s) language is not a political one. This is the language of street. Her speeches will create confusion in the country’s political arena,” he said.
Quader was talking to reporters before attending a women meeting arranged by local Awami League at the residence of Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, MP, in Kabirhat upazila.
The ruling party leader said Sheikh Hasina was taken to court in a disrespect manner during the tenure of the army-backed caretaker government. “But then immediate past Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had been provided with all the modern facilities, including a house,” he said.
While giving her self-defence statement in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case before the makeshift court of Special Judge-5 at Bakshibazar in the capital on Thursday, Khaleda Zia told the court that Sheikh Hasina had been lucky as she did not need to appear before the court.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, called for not creating chaos holding rallies blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong and Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highways in the name of going to Cox’s Bazar for distributing relief among the Rohingyas who have taken shelter there in the face of persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
