Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the decision on 'sitting bus services' in the city will be taken within a week.
He came up with the information while talking to reporters after a meeting of the Road Transport Advisory Council at the Secretariat, UNB reports.
Quader said the five-member committee formed by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to review the sitting bus services will submit its report within seven days. "The final decision will be taken after receiving the report."
He also said the decision to ban the plying of human haulers (locally known as Nasimon, Karimon, Alam-Sadhu, Bhotbhoti) on highways and regional roads, and remove bumpers and angle hooks from trucks and covered vans will be implemented strictly.
The minister urged the transporter owners to introduce short-distance bus services so that passengers need not to ride human haulers.
He said a committee has been formed to make recommendations for preventing vehicles from carrying additional passengers and goods.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, transport and workers' leaders were also present at the meeting.
