Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Monday said the position of women in political arena, society and policy making is well organised.
He came up with the comment at the EC dialogue with women leaders at the Nirbachan Bhaban.
Some 13 women leaders joined the dialogue with the CEC in the chair. The women leaders were Rokeya Kabir, Maleka Banu, Rekha Chowdhury, Aroma Dutta, Fatema Aktar, Nasreen Begum, Farida Yasmin, Rina Sen Gupta, Parveen Sultana Jhuma, Mahbuba Begum, Rehana Siddiqui, Mashuda Khatun Shefali and Mansura Aktar.
Nurul Huda said women themselves established their rights in the society.
"Once women had no voting rights . . . but nowadays none can underestimate the contribution of women to the political arena and the society," he added.
Terming the dialogue with the women leaders as very significant, the CEC said the commission will take the proposals into cognizance.
Nurul Huda said the country has achieved the status of lower middle income country with the united efforts of both male and female citizens. Election commissioners and secretary of EC Secretariat were present in the dialogue.
