The Bengal Foundation has cancelled its classical music festival 2017 failing to secure Dhaka’s Army Stadium as a venue, according to the organisers.
Bengal Foundation made the announcement at a press conference in a city hotel on Sunday.
According to the press release, the Army Sports Control Board (ASCB) on August 31 had rejected allotment of the Army Stadium from November 20-28 to the Bengal Foundation, mentioning that the arrival of the Pope to Bangladesh at that time.
The 6th Bengal Classical Music Festival was scheduled to be held from Nov 23 to Nov 27.
The chairman of the Bengal Foundation informed that they had applied for the Army Stadium venue after their initial preparations for the event. But, on Aug 31, the ASCB said it could not give permission for the event because it will conflict with security preparations for the Pope’s visit to Bangladesh.
