Dhaka’s rail link with northern region restored

Rail communication between Dhaka and north-south districts has been restored after a four-hour of disruption as rain water washed away soil beneath a rail bridge in Chatmohor upazila on Sunday morning.

"The rail link was restored around 11:30 pm after a rescue team from Ishwardi repaired the damaged area under the bridge," said Masud Ali, station master of Chatmohor railway station.

Earlier, rail link of Dhaka with northern and southern districts has been halted around 7:30 am after locals spotted a large pit beneath the rail bridge No 21 in Guakhara area on Dhaka-Rangpur rail route and informed the nearby railway station.

The incident was noticed sometime before Rangpur Express, a Rangpur-bound mail train from Dhaka, is scheduled to cross the bridge around 7:45 am, said the station master.

Being informed by locals, the railway authorities stopped the journey of Rangpur Express train in two kilometers away from the spot, preventing an imminent train accident, he added.
