Dhaka’s rail link with northern region snapped

Rail communications between Dhaka and north-south districts have been suspended on Sunday morning as rain water washed away soil beneath a rail bridge in Chatmohor upazila of Pabna, UNB reports.

Locals spotted a large pit beneath the rail bridge No 21 in Guakhara area on Dhaka-Rangpur rail route and informed the nearby railway station around 7:30 am.

The incident was noticed sometime before Rangpur Express, a Rangpur-bound mail train from Dhaka, is scheduled to cross the bridge around 7:45 am, said Masud Ali, station master of Chatmohor railway station.

Being informed from locals, the railway authorities stopped the journey of Rangpur Express train in two kilometers away from the spot, preventing an imminent train accident, he added.

The rail link will be restored after the repair of the damaged part of the bridge by a rescue team from Ishwardi, the station master said.
