SHARIATPUR: A mobile court on Thursday sentenced 36 fishermen to different terms jail and fined another nine fishermen for catching hilsa defying the government ban, reports UNB.
A joint team comprising River Police, Noria Police Station and Fisheries Department of Noria, conducted a drive in the Padma River from morning to noon and arrested 45 fishermen along with 10 thousand meters of current net and 10kg hilsa fish.
Later, the arrestees were produced before a mobile court led by upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), also an executive magistrate, Sanzida Yeasmin when the court sentenced 36 fishermen in different terms of jail.
Beside, the court fined nine fishermen to TK 5,000 each instead of sending them jail. The recovered hilsa fish were distributed to orphans.
