With the inaugural edition of the T20 Global League postponed, Caribbean heartthrob and T20 poster boy Chris Gayle will be available for Rangpur Riders throughout the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season five, Rangpur Riders chief executive Ishtiaque Sadeque, confirmed the report.
An uncertainty was raised over Gayle’s availability in the major portion of this year’s meet for Rangpur but after Cricket South Africa (CSA) postponed the T20 Global League, Rangpur is going to get Gayle’s service throughout BPL five. The Global T20 was due to start on November 3 and Gayle was all set to take part there.
Gayle, the 37-year old hard-hitter is popular for his power strokes and has been playing franchise-based T20 leagues for a long period.
He is the leading centurion in BPL. In the 15 matches he played in BPL, he hammered 650 runs which includes 3 hundreds and a fifty. His average in BPL is 54.16 with a monstrous strike rate of 174.95.
Previously, he played in the all four BPL but for different teams.
Besides, Sri Lankan star pacer Lasith Malinga will be appearing in Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament for the first time. He has agreed to the proposal and terms of Rangpur Riders to play for the franchisee, confirmed by Rangpur authority.
BPL is scheduled to start from November 4 in Sylhet where Rangpur will take on Rajshahi Kings in the opening day.
Malinga was also supposed to play in the inaugural Global T20 League in South Africa in November this year which has been postponed by the organisers due to financial crisis.
As Malinga has no commitments with any franchisees for next month, Rangpur grabbed the chance to rope in the pacer in their squad.
He is the second highest wicket taker in the stage of world T20 leagues.
Rangpur Rider will feature in the upcoming money spinning T20 tournament scheduled to start on October 4. The franchisee has already roped in international star cricketers in its camp. Moreover West Inidan opener Chris Gayle confirmed his availability for the whole period of the tournament.
