Health Minister Mohammed Nasim on Monday directed the authorities concerned to take stern actions, including dismissal if necessary, against the doctors who remain absent in their workplaces.
He came up with the directive at a meeting at the Secretariat on improving services at government hospitals, said a PID handout.
The minister said the quality of medical services has developed at grassroots level due to government’s strict monitoring at the government hospitals. “It won’t be tolerated that common people don’t get treatment for the absence of doctors at government hospitals,” he said.

He also said actions will be taken against the divisional directors, civil surgeons and supervisors of the hospitals if they fail to ensure the presence of doctors.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque, Health Services Division Secretary Md Serajul Huq Khan, Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Dr Abul Kalam Azad and vice-chancellors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Chittagong Medical University and Rajshahi Medical University attended the meeting.
