12 DU admission seekers jailed for test forgery

A mobile court sentenced 12 admission seekers to 15-days jail each on charge of fraudulence during the ‘Ka’ unit admission test of Dhaka University held on Friday.


The punished admission seekers are-- Al Imran and Nure Alam Arif who were held from the DU business department, Shah Poran from Udayan School, Abul Basar and Nahid Hasan Kawser from Sheikh Burhan Uddin College, Tanvir Hossain and SM Zakir Hossain from Ahmed Bowani Academy Centre, Rakibul Hasan and Khandaker Mirazul Islam from Ideal College, Abu Hanif Noman from Kazi Motahaer Hossain Bhaban of DU, Showmika Prodichi Sottya from Mothijil Girls’ High School and Arifa Billah Tamannna held from Lalmatiya college.


All of the detainees were caught with an ear piece and communication device which looks like a credit card.


DU Acting proctor Prof M Amzad Ali told the university authorities caught them red handed for using electronic devices during the test held from 10:00am to 11:30am at 87 centres in the capital.


Later, they were produced before a mobile court led by executive magistrate Towhid Elahi which awarded the jail term.


A total of 89,506 candidates appeared at the admission test under the 'Ka' unit of the university this year against 1,765 seats.
