CHITTAGONG: Two photojournalists were assaulted by a policeman while they went to discharge their duties at Chittagong Court Building on Wednesday.

The accused police constable was withdrawn from his post following the incident.

Constable Md Iftekhar was posted as driver of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Shahbuddin Ahmed.

Sources said photojournalists Jewel Shill of daily Prothom Alo and Amin Munna of local daily Azadi went to the court to cover an assignment of verdict against Shibir cadre Nasir in the morning.

Jewel said he parked his motorbike on the court premises like before after arrival.

All on a sudden, the police constable appeared there and inquired about parking of the motorbike, said the photojournalist.

At one stage, the constable was locked in altercation with them and started beating without any provocation, he said.

The constable also took away cameras from the photojournalists and threatened to kill them, Jewel alleged.
