3 pedestrians crushed under bus in Faridpur

Three pedestrians have been crushed under a bus when it plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Barisal highway in Bhobokdia area of Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur.


The deceased were identified as Wazed Chokder, 65, Rakibul Hasan, 25, and Meherun Nesa, 55, residents of Bari Dangi union, UNB reports.


Ejaj Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said that the accident took place around 11:00 am on Tuesday as the Dhaka-bound 'Sonartari Paribahan' bus skidded off the ditch running over the pedestrians after its driver lost control over the steering.


Three pedestrians were crushed under the bus and 15 bus passengers injured in the incident, added the OC.


On information, highway police and fire fighting team went to the spot and continued rescue drive.


The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital.


The bus passengers alleged that the driver was talking over mobile phone while driving.
