Several journalists including Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) president Shakhawat Hossain Badsha have been injured in an attack carried out by fundamentalists in front of the “Daily Inqilab’ office in the capital’s Motijheel area on Thursday evening.
Amio Ghatak Pulack, Joint secretary of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) claimed the attack incident through his Facebook post.
The attack took place as journalists staged a blockade programme in front of the daily to realise the demands for salary arrears and other dues.
The leaders and members of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) started their scheduled sit-in programme at 9:00am on Thursday in front of the newspaper office.
BFUJ secretary general Omar Faruk, DUJ general secretary Sohel Haidar Chowdhury, DRU president Shakhawat Hossain Badsha, BFUJ joint secretary Amio Ghatak Pulack, DSEC president KM Shahidul Haque, former DSEC secretary Abul Kalam Azad, DUJ organising secretary Shajahan Mia, sports secretary Mofizur Rahman Babu among others addressed the programme while DUJ president Shaban Mahmud was in the chair.
In his speech, BFUJ secretary general Omar Faruk announced that the sit-in programme will continue until the authorities pay the dues.
After this announcement, demonstrating journalists came under attack.
A M M Baha Uddin, the owner of the “Daily Inqilab” was blamed for the attack.
