Saying that there is enough stock of rice and the supply is sufficient in the market, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday said a vested quarter is trying to destabilise the rice market by spreading propaganda.
He said the country has no rice shortage, but the government is trying to make up the damage caused by floods in haor and other areas in the country through rice import.
“But a vested quarter is spreading propaganda by circulating a fake letter without any signature of Indian authorities, saying that they had stopped rice export to Bangladesh," Tofail said.
Tofail alleged some media also reported it on the basis of the propaganda which is not accurate. He called upon the media to be more responsible for the sake of country and people.
The minister also clarified that India has neither stopped rice export to Bangladesh nor taken any decision regarding it.
He said the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been directed to conduct drive against any hoarding of rice.
The government directed the authorities concerned to take necessary action against the persons involved in spreading such propaganda, Tofail said.
