The High Court has begun delivering the verdict on the death references and appeals in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder cases.
The court started to reading out the verdict around 11.00 am on Tuesday.
The HC bench comprising Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam is delivering the verdict.
The verdict was scheduled to deliver on August 14 but instead of passing the verdict, the HC bench shifted the date to August 22 without assigning any reason.
The High Court concluded its hearing on the death reference and appeals on July 26.
Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge, on January 16 last year, sentenced 26 people, including three sacked RAB officials and former Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nur Hossain, to death.
Nine others were sentenced to imprisonment on different terms in two cases filed over the seven killings.
On April 27 in 2014, Nur Hossain along with the RAB officials abducted Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and district court lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar from Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.
The convicts took them to a microbus in broad daylight.
A few days later, bodies of the victims were recovered from the Shitalakhya. Nazrul’s wife and the son-in-law of advocate Chandan filed two cases over the killings.
