Dhaka’s rail communication with the northern and southern districts of the country was restored on Monday afternoon.
"We have repaired the bridge and the railway track became functional by 4:00 pm" Railway's West Zone Chief Engineer Ramjan Ali said.
All trains services to northern and south-western parts of the country were suspended on Sunday as a railway bridge was partly damaged in Kalihati upazila of Tangail due to the onrush of floodwater.
A portion of the bridge was collapsed on Sunday as soon as Dhaka-bound Sundarban Express crossed the area, said the official.
A task force of around 300 people, including two units of fire service, has been working relentlessly since yesterday, said Ramjan Ali, adding that most of the repair works have already been done.
