The Election Commission on Sunday started the collection of photographs and fingerprints of possible voters in 183 upazilas across the country in the first phase.
The photographs and fingerprints will be collected at union-level voter registration centres in 183 upazilas till September 15 next in the first phase, while these will be collected in 216 upazilas from September 16 to October 13 in the second phase, and in 118 upazilas from October 14 to November 5 in the third phase, reports UNB.
The Commission earlier registered 24.3 lakh people as possible voters across the country during its door-to-door campaign from July 25 to August 9 last.
The data of 13.33 lakh dead people were also collected to remove their names from the country’s voter list during the 16-day data collection campaign by enumerators.
This year, enumerators collected the data of 2,437,331 possible voters throughout the country, Director (PR) at the EC Secretariat SM Asaduzzaman told, reports UNB.
The possible voters are 447,515 in Dhaka region, 234,977 in Chittagong region, 339,870 in Rajshahi region, 250,134 in Khulna region, 224,820 in Sylhet region, 136,462 in Barisal region, 263,242 in Rangpur region, 265,754 in Mymensingh region, 156,280 in Faridpur region and 118,277 in Comilla region, he said.
The freshly registered people will be voters when the final updated electoral rolls will be published on January 31, 2018 following the disposal of complaints, if any.
According to the EC statistics, the country has a total of 10.17 crore voters.
