The first Namaz-e-Janaza of former Awami League lawmaker and valiant freedom fighter Advocate Khan Tipu Sultan was held at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) in the city.
Lawmakers, political leaders, well-wishers, officials and employees of the JS were present in the janaza, reports BSS.
After janaza, a guard of honour was given to the late AL leader, said an official handout.
Later, Law Minister Anisul Huq on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sergeant-at-Arms on behalf of Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Md Monirul Islam, MP, on behalf of Deputy Speaker Md Fazley Rabbi, AL Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman, MP, on behalf of Awami League, Mohammad Noman, MP, on behalf of opposition leader of the parliament and lawmakers, political parties placed wreaths on the coffin of Tipu Sultan.
Later, a special munazat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul.
Tipu Sultan died at a hospital in the capital last night at the age 68.
He left behind his wife and two sons to mourn his death, family sources said.
He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Central Hospital as he suffered a stroke four-day ago.
Khan Tipu Sultan was elected MP thrice from Jessore-5 constituency on Awami League ticket in 1991, 1996 and 2008.
