High Court defers verdict in Narayanganj seven killings cases

The High Court has rescheduled the pronouncement of verdict on the death reference and appeals over Narayanganj seven-murder cases.

A division bench comprising Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam on Sunday fixed August 22 for delivering the verdict.

On July 26, the High Court concluded its hearing on the death reference and appeals.

On January 16 last year, Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge’s court sentenced 26 people, including three sacked RAB officers and former city corporation councillor Nur Hossain, to death.

Nine others were sentenced to imprisonment for different terms in two cases filed over the seven killings.

On April 27 in 2014, Nur Hossain along with RAB officials abducted Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and district court lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar from Dhaka-Narayanganj link road. The convicts took them to a microbus in broad daylight.

A few days later, bodies of the victims were recovered from the Shitalakhya river.

Nazrul’s wife and son-in-law of advocate Chandan filed two cases over the murders.
