Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu suggested expediting halal industry as it is becoming a potential sector for earning huge foreign currency.
"Halal industry is a flourishing industry across the world. As a Muslim majority country, Bangladesh can increase export in the global market through developing halal foods and tourism industries," he said while inaugurating the "Bangladesh Halal Expo-2017" in the city yesterday.
Director General of Bangladesh Islamic Foundation Shamim Mohammad Afjal presided over the function.
Bangladesh Islamic Foundation organised the three-day exposition on Baitul Mukarram National Mosque premises.
Mentioning Bangladesh as a role model for food security in the global economy, Amir Hossain Amu said Bangladesh has achieved tremendous success in agriculture production.
He said the government is providing all sorts of supports, including cash incentives, to the entrepreneurs for diversifying export-oriented products.
He urged the young entrepreneurs to build export-oriented halal foods and tourism industries by utilizing the government facilities.
