The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a cultural programme by the Indigenous Communities of Bangladesh at IUB Campus in Bashundhara area in the capital on Thursday.
The students of Moanoghar Residential High School, Rangamati and a Mandi group from Madhupur enthralled the audience by their musical performances and traditional dances.
They performed 9 different dances and 3 songs including jum dance, bamboo dance, changbi dance, dance of hunting, bottle dance and dances by the garo, chakma and tripura community. The songs include chakma song and umbrella songs.
Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB inaugurated the programme as the Chief Guest. Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB delivered his welcome speech while Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences explained the background of indigenous communities’ cultural heritage . Towhid Samad, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University delivered vote of thanks.
Members of the Trustees, Pro Vice chancellor of IUB, Deans, members of the faculty and management and a full-house students also enjoyed indigenous communities’ 2-hour splendid cultural performances.
