‘Robber’ killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’



A robber was killed in a gunfight with police at Christian para Balurmath area of the city early Saturday.


The deceased was identified as Munshi Raju, 27 and son of Siddikur Rahman of West Tootpara of the city. Raju was accused of number of cases, including murder, rape.


Being informed, a gang of 10 to 12 robbers, including Raju, was taking preparation to commit robbery at the area, police conducted a drive.


Sensing presence of the law enforcers, they opened fire on police, prompting the law enforcers fired back, triggered a  gunfight, leaving Raju injured around 3:30am.


He was brought to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he died at 4:00am.


Five members of police, including officer-in-charge of khulna police station, were injured in the gunfight.


Police also recovered a pistol, three round of bullets, a magazine and a Chinese axe from the spot.
