12 hurt in BCL clash at DU

At least 12 activists were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Salimullah Muslim Hall of Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday over allocation of seat for a fresher, campus sources said.

The clash took place between supporters of S M Hall unit BCL president Tahsan Ahmed Rasel and general secretary Mehedi Hassan Tapash around 11:30 pm on Thursday, witnesses said.

“The university authorities will take stern action against the guilty after an investigation,” said acting proctor Amzad Ali.

Arifur Rahman Arif, a fourth year student of the Institute of Education and Science, and Raihan Kabir, another fourth year student of the Department of Music, were given first aid at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The situation was brought under control following intervention of the proctor and DU BCL president Abid Al Hassan, campus sources said.
