Bangladesh cabinet on Monday has approved March 25 as the Genocide Day to recognise the brutal genocide committed on this day in 1971.
The approval came at a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam told journalists.
Pakistani army cracked down on the Bangalees and killed them indiscriminately on this day in 1971.
The cabinet Members reached a consensus and recognized the event.
From now, March 25 will be observed as the Genocide Day in the country.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministry has started their efforts to recognise the day internationally.
On March 11, the parliament adopted a resolution to observe the day as Genocide Day. The proposal was forwarded by Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
