Bangladesh bounced back in the eight-nation Hockey World League Round-2 with a 5-1 goals victory against visiting Fiji in their 2nd Pool A match at Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
Captain Rashel Mahmud Jimmy and penalty corner specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan struck two goals each while Ashraful Islam netted one for Bangladesh. Captain Leevan Dutta scored lone goal for Fiji.
In the day’s match, Chayan put Bangladesh ahead in the 26th minute from his favourite penalty corner (1-0).
Krishno Kumar Das took penalty corner that was stopped by Sarower Hossain and Chayan connected it properly.
Captain Leevan Dutta restored the parity for Fiji in the 32nd minute from a penalty corner taken by Martin Fong and stopped by Adrian Smith (1-1).
Bangladesh took the lead again as Jimmy scored a field goal in 37th minute by placing the ball home off a Kamruzzaman Rana pass (2-1).
Jimmy scored his 2nd and the 3rd goal for Bangladesh in the 41st minute, utilising a Roman Sarkar pass (3-1).
Chayan netted his 2nd and the 4th goal for Bangladesh in the 51st minute, also by a penalty corner, taken by Milan Hossain and stopped by Rana (4-1).
Ashraful Islam sealed the fate of the match scored the 5th goal for Bangladesh also by a penalty corner taken by Krishno Kuma and stopped by Sarower Hossain (5-1).
Bangladesh, which started their campaign with 0-3 goal loss against Malaysia, will play the 3rd and last pool match against Oman on Tuesday at the same venue.
