2 cops caught while ‘looting’ smuggled gold in Satkhira

Locals caught two policemen at Senpur Bazar in Tala Upazila on Friday night allegedly while snatching huge gold from a smuggler. They were identified as assistant sub-inspector Abdur Rauf Paltu of Sadar Police Station in Jhenidah and its constable Maruf, UNB reports.

Locals said SI Paltu and constable Maruf arrested Biplab while he along with three kg of gold was going to India from Sonadanga of Khulna.

The policemen started towards Senpur Bazar of Tala Upazila along with Biplab and tried to snatch the gold from him.

As Biplab started screaming, locals caught all of them at the bazaar and gave them a good beating. Later, they were handed over to police.

Officer-in-charge of Patkekghata Police Station Mahibu Islam said they rescued three people from public wrath. He, however, said he heard that Biplab had two gold bars with him.
