2 associates of Gulshan attacker surrender in Bogra

Two associates of Gulshan attacker Khairul Islam Payel who was killed in commando operation at Holey Artisan Bakery have surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in an anti-militant rally in Bogra.

 

The surrendered militants are Abdul Hakim, 22, son of Abdur Rahman of Kamarpara village of the district`s Shajahanpur upazila, and Mahmudul Hassan Bijoy,17, of Saghata upazila of Gaibandah district.

 

Both of them were members of a new faction of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh.

 

The militants formally surrendered to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Shahid Tito Auditorium in Bogra around 12:00pm on Wednesday.

 

Payel was among the five members of New JMB who attacked Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan on July 1 and killed 23 people, mostly foreigners. They were killed in a commando operation on July 2. Syria-based terrorist group Islamic State took credit for the attack.

 

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal chaired the event while RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed was present as its special guest.

 

The home minister also handed over Tk5 lakh cheque to each of the militants for rehabilitation.

 

Hakim is preparing for admission at a university in Dhaka while Bijoy is a student of Bogra Polytechnic Institute.
