Youth detained for ‘derogatory’ comment against PM, family

A youth was detained in Natore on Friday for posting a “defamatory comment” on Facebook against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members six month back.


The detainee was identified as Ruhul Amin, 25, son of Omar Ali, a resident of Kholabaria village of Lakkhipur union of the upazila.


Police detained him from Hoybatpur bazaar today noon. A case has been filed with Natore sadar police station under section 57 of ICT act 2006.


The police also detained the youth’s brother Lokman Hossain, 28, for pursuing police to release the youth.


According to the police and locals, a group of people picked Ruhul Amin up from his house and brought him to Haibatpur bazaar as a sequel to the Facebook comment and later they phoned police to detain him.


Police said that Ruhul Amin posted the “defamatory comment” on Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sheikh Kamal on last 23 March.


Natore sadar police station inspector Nazrul Islam said a local activist of ruling Awami League, Keramat Ali, filed a case against Ruhul Amin this evening with the police station under ICT law.
