A farmer was trampled to death by a herd of marauding elephants at Julgaon village in Sribordi upazila of Sherpur district early Friday.
Nuhush Chandra Hajong, a Forest Department official, said Dudu Mia, son of Bakter Mia, was guarding crops fields in the bordering area against attack of wild elephants on Thursday.
At one stage, a herd of wild elephants coming from inside the forest swooped on Dudu Mia while he was asleep in a shed around 4am and trampled him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Some crops were also damaged by the elephants.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khaleda Nasrin and forest officials visited the spot in the morning, reports unb.
